Overview

The Consumer Loan Credit Officer Sr evaluates members' credit needs by analyzing loan requests primarily outside of the loan matrix. Makes credit decisions on complex loan requests, and possibly employee loans. Coaches and provides feedback to loan officers on lending policy, procedures, and practices. Participates in loan officer training. Participates in lending functions requiring the Advanced Credit Officer’s approval authority as directed by management. Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal and external customers. Provides feedback from all channels on all aspects of consumer lending.

 

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and “decisions” loan applications, including those falling outside the matrix for Loan Officers.               
  • Combines credit scoring and sound judgment to make lending decisions for the benefit of the membership.
  • Maintains Advance Approval Limits.
  • Maintains standards in loan quality, member service, and audit integrity and compliance areas.
  • Contributes to evaluating and recommending improvements to department functions (LOS, processes, policy, etc.) Coaches and mentors Loan Officers in interviewing members and underwriting decision process.           
  • Develops and utilizes resources to identify, prevent, and correct all areas of loan quality, Loan Officer training, and account integrity.          
  • Explains reasons for denial and explores options for members when loans are denied.            
  • Assists members and employees with the loan process and all underwriting issues. 
  • Assists in developing of new programs and methods to improve member services and save money for the Credit Union; implements new loan products and services in accordance with management direction.         
  • Inputs employee applications, completes the decision process, sets up funding instructions, and submits the service request to fund the loan.         
  • Ensures loans are reviewed, decisioned, and processed within established LFCU policies and procedures, and federal and state guidelines.       
  • Troubleshoots problems loans submitted by various delivery channels and collaborates with management and staff to resolve issues.  
  • Counsel internal and external customers regarding loan decisions, policies, procedures, and guidelines.      
  • Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service to members and co-workers.            
  • Reviews funded loans and prepares assessments as directed by management.           
  • Cross-sells products and services offered at the credit union when appropriate            
  • Identifies cross-sell opportunities and coaches Loan Officers on same.             
  • Validates and develops policies and procedures in line with Credit Union strategic planning.              
  • Works with peers and leadership from different functions and has an impact across the department.               
  • Assist new hires with underwriting training and with refresher training for existing Logix employees.
  • Accomplish individual and departmental goals and objectives. 
  • May assist with various reports         
  • May perform other duties when assigned  
  • Must consistently report to work on time, as scheduled.
  • Works with peers and leadership from different functions and has an impact across the department.

Qualifications

Education

  • Min/Preferred: Preferred
  • Education Level: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree              
  • Description: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 7
  • Preferred Years of Experience:         
  • Comments: A minimum of 7 years' experience in a financial institution as a consumer loan officer or underwriter, dealing with direct and indirect loans, vehicle loans, credit cards, and personal loans, with progressive limits.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability
  • Thorough understanding of credit reports and how to interpret the data.             
  • Knowledge of NCUA regulations, consumer lending, loan collection concepts, and practices.            
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of office products        
  • Ability to learn in-house and vendor owned systems and the ability to use general office equipment.               
  • The ability to work with all levels of management, credit union staff, and members.   
  • Broad knowledge of, and practical experience with, credit union or other financial institution operating areas, functions, products and services.   
  • Well-organized, efficient, detail-oriented, self-starter, able to work independently.     
  • Must be flexible and possess excellent phone manners and techniques.            
  • Ability to handle simultaneously multiple tasks and changing priorities efficiently and effectively.    
  • Own and solve complex tasks that are part of a large project and lead small projects on their own.

Pay Range

USD $36.32 - USD $54.48 /Hr.
