Overview

The Vice President, Controller directs and oversees the organization’s accounting functions, which may include cost and general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles [GAAP], NCUA regulations, Corporate Policies, and internal controls. This position is also responsible for ensuring timely and accurate preparation of various financial statements and other management reports, including Board Report schedules, variance analysis, and implementation and usage of technologies in payroll and accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain internal controls, assuring the timeliness and correctness of the month-end closure and daily balancing.
  • Directs the maintenance of the organization's general ledger and oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close and financial reporting.          
  • Coordinates with management and other financial functions to develop organizational budgets and financial forecasts.    
  • Timely submission of the quarterly NCUA call report.
  • Oversee accounts payable and ensure controls over invoices and timely payments.      
  • Ensure internal controls are followed and updated to stay up to date with streamlined processes/automation.             
  • Ensure reconciliation of GLs is performed timely, and the accuracy of financials is high.              
  • Conduct budget variance analysis each month at the GL and cost center level and work with management to understand business reasons for the variances.              
  • Responsible for Pension Plan statements, valuations, and disclosures.              
  • Manage the accounting, validation, and ongoing maintenance of RRE & CRE loan servicing.        
  • Monitors the Share & Plastics loss, Fee Income Waiver review, controls & monthly validation.   
  • Responsible for Debit/Credit card interchange and opex tracking/reporting, including rewards.     
  • Responsible for various accounting standards, including FAS91, Fixed Asset, and WIP.     
  • Maintain the Chart of Accounts & Cost Center structure consistent with requirements for other systems; Empyrean, Solver BI360, Workday, Multiview & Symitar.            
  • Responsible for Investment Portfolio accounting, including roll forward schedules, etc.           
  • May be required to participate in product and relationship pricing decisions, which impact the company’s growth and profitability.      
  • May be required to participate in various committees, including the Fee Committee and any other committees that arise that may require financial analysis/data or are charged with developing recommendations that have a significant impact on income.
  • Maintains a smoothly functioning division that meets and demonstrates compliance with standards set by all regulatory agencies.           
  • Ensures that all payroll functions are conducted in accordance with prevailing wage and hour laws, IRS regulations, and all prevailing laws and regulations; manages compensation accounting and benefits allocation.     
  • Researches and implements new or enhanced financial applications, such as profitability, budgeting, and payroll systems.
  • Ensures accurate and timely preparation of audit material for credit union auditors and examiners. Prepares necessary schedules and provides auditors with assistance in performing reviews of the Credit Union operations including exam materials and year-end financial statements.
  • Responsible for current expected credit losses analysis including coordinating Q&E calculations, related disclosures, roll forward schedules, and back testing/attribution analysis.
  • Responsible for Board Report development and maintenance and monthly ALCO financial results & budget reporting.            
  • Provides financial reports to management as requested. Identifies the cost and earnings contributions of all services, functions, and departments of the Credit Union.
  • Develops, applies, and evaluates processes and procedures for the department as well as various credit union policies required by the NCUA.   
  • Maintains an effective program for the retention and timely destruction of credit union records.             
  • Assists in the development of plans, procedures, and reporting systems for proper financial control of the Credit Union.           
  • Responsible for FAS91 accounting, loan loss provisions, capital expenditures, depreciation, MSR gains/losses, prepayments, delinquency and charge-offs, and CUSO Budget and Financial Statement.
  • Responsible for variance analysis, reporting, attribution analysis, opex, compensation (by dept/category), fee income and non-operating/non-interest income/expense, and forecast development.        
  • Will participate in development activities including Raddon CEO Strategies, Empyrean Systems training and other systems training

Qualifications

Education

  • Min/Preferred: Preferred
  • Education Level: Other/ Graduate Degree

  • MBA or Master's degree in a relevant field

Experience

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 10
  • Preferred Years of Experience:           
  • Comments: 10 years of accounting and finance experience with at least 3 years of financial institution experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Ability
  • Must have supervisory experience.
  • Must have extensive experience with the concepts and principles of one or more related fields or departments.
  • Must also have a thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of office products, and
  • General Ledger and other financial systems are a plus.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior management.
  • Establishes departmental policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.

Pay Range

USD $170,383.85 - USD $272,614.15 /Yr.
